He uses solfege and rhythm syllables as a method toward understanding notation.

First Steps in Music: 1-2 grades- John M. This should also allow for sufficient seating for family members and friends in the auditorium. If you child is performing in the second half of the concert (fifth grade students), please view the art work around the school prior to the intermission. If your child is in the first half of the concert (fourth grade students), please stay in the auditorium until intermission. During intermission, please leave the auditorium to allow for parents/family of children performing in the second half of the show to enter and be seated.
Reporting times-
4th grade Band members- report to Mrs. Gendron’s room at 6:15 p.m.
4th grade Chorus members- report to the risers in the auditorium at 6:25 p.m.
5th grade Band members- report to Mrs. Peabody’s room during intermission.
5th grade Chorus members- report to the risers in the auditorium during intermission.

***** The Francis Wyman Arts Night will be taking place at the same time as the concert. Please be aware that parents are responsible for their child when they are not on stage performing. Fourth and Fifth grade Chorus students will NOT be reporting to a classroom prior to their performance as they did for the Winter Concert. Thank you.

Good Concert Etiquette Tips

1.Always enter and exit the auditorium between songs not during them. It is distracting to those performing as well as other audience members to be moving around the auditorium during the songs. (This also holds true for all chorus members reporting to the risers. Please come down to the risers between band songs, not during them.)
2. No talking during the performance. This too is distracting to the performers and audience members.
3. Turn off cell phones and other electronic devices. This allows for fewer distractions through the performance.
4. Video cameras and still shot cameras are welcome. That is as long as it does not disrupt the view of other audience members.
5. Watch the conductor for cues. If the conductor still has their arms raised during a piece (even if you hear silence),this means the song is not over. Watch for the conductor to lower their arms to their sides. This means the song is over and you can clap with enthusiasm!
6. I hope you had as much fun as I did. I am very proud of all of you and the work you put into your concert preparation. Keep practicing your instrument and looking for music you are interested in playing and some day you will sound like the High School Band! I would love to hear your comments on the evening. I encourage you to post your stories and thoughts on my blog. All fourth and fifth grade Band members need to report to the gym by 6 p.m. for our 6:10 p.m. warm-up with their instrument, music, and music stand (if you have one). Parents can stay in the gymnasium for the 7 p.m. concert start.
Concert dress- dark bottoms and white top.
Please see the concert notice that was sent home last week for other details.
If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Peabody @ school- 781-273-7053, Peabody@burlington.mec.eduMrs. Peabody Musichttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06605884006429175271noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7817193484727046856.post-69133777757452473972010-01-28T08:46:00.000-08:002010-01-28T08:56:31.124-08:00Important Instrument/Band informationMany fourth grade Band students have recently dedided to quit their instrument. I understand that it can be difficult to make time to practice an instrument for some students. But, if they are going to succeed at their instrument and improve their playing, practicing at home is essential. Parents, please support and encourage your child to practice their instrument as often as possible. It is important to practice the weekly assignment (found on the assignment page in the back of their book) but it also important to play songs that are fun. This builds self-esteem and encourages more practicing.
On a side note, some fourth grade Band students look forward to the opportunity to play percussion (drums) when they are in the fifth grade. Though this is a great opportunity, the music department at Francis Wyman can only offer percussion lessons to those students who play an instrument for the entire fourth grade year. Those fourth grade Band students who have quit their instrument part way through their fourth grade year, will not be eligible to play percussion in the fifth grade. Though this may seem unfair, this is the policy of the Instrumental Lesson and Band department.Mrs. Peabody Musichttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06605884006429175271noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7817193484727046856.post-26989900179184068912010-01-14T16:58:00.000-08:002010-01-14T17:03:12.979-08:00Burlington All-Band ConcertThe Burlington All-Band Concert will take place the evening of Thursday, March 11th at the Burlington High School. All fourth and fifth grade Band members from the Francis Wyman school will have the opportunity to perform with the other fourth and fifth grade Band members from Fox Hill, Memorial, and Pine Glen elementary schools. This all-band concert is also an opportunity for the Francis Wyman band members to see and hear performances by the Middle and High School Bands. I look forward to seeing all the Francis Wyman Band members there.
